Sir William Hamilton had grand plans to develop a town and dock on the eastern end of Hubberston Pill, a tidal inlet on his estate. These developments needed to be paid for by trade.

The town of Milford Haven, situated on the south west coast of Wales, has a rich history shaped by various notable figures. Perhaps the most prominent of these is Sir William Hamilton.

Milford Haven's docks were built in the 1820s but were left without significant use after whaling ended. A steam trawler's arrival in 1888 signaled the start of a local fleet of trawlers.

Local children were invited along to design patchwork squares to be included in the museums new cushions.
